Abul-Hasan ibn Mirza Ghiyas Beg

Abul Hasan Asaf Khan (* 1569, † November 10, 1641 ) was an Indian politician. As a older brother of Nur Jahan, he was brother of the Great Mogul Jahangir. His daughter married Shah Jahan Mumtaz Mahal ( Prince Khurram ). Asaf Khan was both under Jahangir and Shah Jahan under vizier. He had great influence among both rulers. His grandson Aurangzeb was the last major Mughal emperor of India.

Even before the death of Jahangir in 1627 to Asaf Khan presented in the struggle for the throne against his sister on the side of his son Shah Jahan. He managed to overthrow his sister and Shah Jahan commissioned its rival for the throne off. He defeated Shahryar, who was married to Ladli Begum ( daughter Only Jahan from his first marriage ), and killed him. During the confrontation, he could kidnap the sons of Shah Jahan, who had taken his sister hostage from their palace.

Asaf Khan influenced the policy significantly until his death. He is regarded as a great and clever statesman.
