Abyysky District

The Abyjski ulus (Russian Абыйский улус, also Абыйский район, rajon Abyjski; Yakut улууһа Абый, Abyj uluuha ) is one of the 34 Ulusse ( Rajons ) of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia ) in the north of the Russian Far East Federal District.

Geography

It is located in the north of the Republic of inland north of the Continental Divide and the Arctic Circle between the rivers Yana and Kolyma. It is bordered to the orth Allaichowski ulus and south to the Momski ulus. The Abyjski ulus is crossed from the southwest to the northeast of the over 1700 km long Indigirka, which rises in the far south Oimjakonski ulus. On its right bank and the Belaya Gora is Rajonverwaltungssitz ( Yakut Ürüng Haya ).

The Ulus has an area of ​​approximately 69,400 km ², almost as large as the German state of Bavaria.

In the north, the terrain is flat to within a few hills in the southeast hills and mountains. The vegetation consists mostly of tundra, some areas are cold desert. In the southeast there on hillsides islands of taiga.

The Ulus consists of six municipalities: an urban municipality ( gorodskoje posselenije ) and five rural communities ( selskoje posselenije ) ( in Yakutia called Nasleg ) with a total of only seven villages.
