The Abzucht, also called the upper reaches Wintertalbach, is a 12.1 km long, orographic left tributary of the Oker in Lower Saxony. The creek flows through the city of Goslar.

Geography

The Abzucht rises in upper Wintertal as Wintertalbach at an altitude of 722 m above sea level. NN. The source is located at the northeast edge of the Schalke. From here, the river first flows in a northeasterly direction. West of Rammelsberg mountain the Abzucht is dammed in Herzberger Lake. Below the pond happened the creek channels the area of ​​the ore mine Rammelsberg and then reached the southern outskirts of Goslar. Here the Abzucht flows together with the much larger, approaching from the left Gose and now takes their last eastern flow direction. After the Abzucht has passed through the old town of Goslar, it flows, accompanied by the B 498 direction Goslar- Oker, there to the left side to 192 m above sea level. NN to open into the Oker.

On its 12.1 km long road which Abzucht overcomes a difference in altitude of 530 m, corresponding to an average bed slope of 43.8 ‰. The creek drains a 31.61 km ² large catchment area via Oker, Aller and Weser to the North Sea.

History

While the water of Gose for brewing beer ( Gose beer) could be used, the Abzucht was heavily affected by mining at Rammelsberg. The name is derived from the removal of the contaminated water hut.

In the area of ​​Wintertals and the mining facilities at Rammelsberg the Abzucht powered water wheels and was used for the washing plant. Within the walls of Goslar and on her way forward to the mouth of the river Oker drove her water, already increased by the flow of Gose, numerous water wheels of mills, fulling mills or sawmills to. Earlier this section was referred to both as Abzucht, as well as Gose. This is reflected today in street names such as On the contrary Abzucht, An der Gose or Abzuchtstraße, but especially on behalf of the city of Goslar itself
