Abzyme

Abzymes are catalytic antibodies. They have an over normal enzymes increased substrate specificity, that is, they put only a single substrate to ( lock and key relationship). The name derives from Antibody (English for antibodies) and enzymes (English for enzyme) ago.

They bind to the transition state of a given reaction. However, their catalytic rates are relatively low, which is why they (still) are not suitable for large-scale use in biotechnology, with some exceptions.

Abzymes also catalyze reactions for which no suitable catalysts are known, such as the hydrolysis of aryl carbamate and Arylharnstoffherbiziden or Diels- Alder reactions.
