AC Libertas

The AC Libertas ( officially: Associazione Calcio Libertas ) is a san- marinesischer football club from the town of Borgo Maggiore. The club participates in the operation of the national league championship, the Campionato Sammarinese di Calcio, in part. History

The association was founded in September 1928 under the name SP Libertas ( Società Sportiva Poli Libertas ) as the first football club in the country.

The first success came in 1937 with the club winning the national cup competition, the Coppa Titano. In the early years of this competition was irregular. Only in the year 1950, the second competition was held, the Libertas was able to win again. The club won a total of six times in a row, the national cup competition, which was, however, was not yet officially performed, and thus constituted an unprecedented record. In the seventh staging in 1965 of the AC Juvenes / Dogana finally ended the winning streak of Libertas and won the trophy for the first time. Since then, the club won four more Cups.

The establishment of a National Football League under the name Campionato Sammarinese di Calcio followed in 1985. Championship In operation, the club could have little success in contrast to the cup competition, the only championship was won in 1996.

In the 2007 /08 season AC Libertas participated in the qualification for the UEFA Cup. In the first qualifying round of the club met the Irish representatives Drogheda United.
