AC Propulsion tzero

The tzero is a motor vehicle with electric drive, which was built by the American company AC Propulsion as a development platform. Three copies were made by hand and sold to two individuals, after the plan was to build the car in series abandoned in 2003. The drive concept developed was licensed from AC Propulsion for the Tesla Roadster.

The vehicle went into technical demonstrations against numerous sports car with a combustion engine in to show the superiority of electric cars and the drives of AC Propulsion, eg against the Corvette C4.

The frame consists of a steel frame, the body is a glass fiber body. It is powered by an AC -150 ( three-phase asynchronous motor). The car has no gears. With a fixed reduction ratio of 9:1, it reaches speeds of about 160 km / h ( 100 mph ).

Energy supply

Depending on the battery pack with which it is equipped, the car has a range of up to 250 km. In the basic version with lead -gel batteries can drive with fully charged batteries, about 160 km. Alternatively, a trailer has been offered by the manufacturer on which a Kawasaki 500 - cc engine, coupled with a 20 kW generator is stowed. With this it is possible to drive longer distances on the highway. The fuel consumption is then about 6.7 to 7.8 l/100 km in (35 to 30 mpg ).

Regenerative brakes

The tzero has a regenerative brake. As soon as the driver takes his foot off the accelerator pedal, the car starts to slow down slightly, where it converts the kinetic energy of the car into electricity and thus the charges batteries again. The induction motor is thus simply used as a generator. Except for possible emergency braking, the Tzero can therefore be driven using the accelerator pedal. In city traffic, so the range of the tzero allegedly increased by up to 30 %.

Performance

Due to the non-existing gears, but especially by the insufficient motor continuous power the maximum speed of tzero is limited. Due to its light weight and the short -term up to 147 kW motor, the torque is available from the first turn to without a clutch and manual transmission, the car accelerates from 0 to 60 mph (about 0 to 96 km / h) in only 4.07 seconds.
