Acacus (Greek mythology)

Akakos ( Ἄκακος ancient Greek ) In Greek mythology, the eponymous founder of the Arcadian city Akakesion.

He is one of the sons of Lycaon, all of which are considered to be the founder of the Arcadian city. According to Pausanias, he was regarded by the Arcadians as educators of Hermes, who had by him the nickname Akakesios ( Ἀκακήσιος ) and was worshiped on a hill near Akakesions with a cult statue. Pausanias noted that there had been another myth about Hermes Akakesios in Thebes and Tanagra, this leads however no further.

Probably Hermes Akakesios is to identify with the Homeric Hermes, which is ( ἀκάκητα Ἑρμείας ) known as defenders of the accident and as a donor of good gifts.
