History

The Academy consists of fifty members from music critics, music industry and culture. It was founded in 1947 by Roger Vincent, Armand Panigel, José Bruyr, Antoine Golea, Franck Ténot, Pierre Brive and Marc Pincherle. The name of the academy was named in honor of the poet and inventor Charles Cros, a friend of Arthur Rimbaud and Paul Verlaine. Since 1948, the organization annually awards the Grand Prix du Disque for outstanding achievements in music.
