Academy of San Carlos

The Academia de San Carlos was the National Academy of Fine Arts in sculpture Mexico, based in Mexico City. From it the Escuela Nacional de Artes Plásticas ( ENAP ) and the Escuela Nacional de Arquitectura went in 1929 (ENA ) at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México forth. The latter later became the Faculty of Architecture of the UNAM. ENAP continues the tradition names Academia de San Carlos. Colloquially, it is also used for the Faculty of Architecture.

History

The traditional academy, from which it went many renowned artists, was by decree of December 25, 1783 as the Real Academia de San Carlos de las Nobles Artes (German: "Royal Academy of San Carlos of the noble arts " ) for architecture, painting and sculpture built in the historic center of Mexico City on the calle del Amor de Dios. Since its inception in 1821, the Academy was renamed several times, the Academia Nacional de San Carlos de México, 1863 Academia Imperial de San Carlos de México and 1867 for the Escuela Nacional de Bellas Artes ( ENBA ). From 1861 until his death led Rebull Santiago Gordillo school, after Antonio Rivas Mercado to 1912.

In 1929, she was divided in the College of Fine Arts Escuela Nacional de Artes Plásticas and the School of Architecture Escuela Nacional de Arquitectura, which in turn was laid in 1933 in the University City of the UNAM and the Faculty of Architecture.

ENAP offers, among other things, postgraduate courses and now has significant collections of art prints, drawings, paintings, photographs, sculptures and coins for the field of numismatics.
