Acarapis woodi

Acarapidose is a disease caused by mites of the adult bees. The parasitic tracheal mite ( Acarapis woodi ) lives in the trachea of the bee and hinders the respiratory activity of the bees. Your saliva is toxic and causes blood poisoning (sepsis). Infested with the mite bees become weak and unable to fly. In the apiary this disease is referred to simply as " trachea ".

In Austria the Acarapidose one of the notifiable animal diseases in Switzerland to the diseases mentioned in group 4

The German bee diseases Regulation provides in § 14 before treatment obligation of all bee colonies in the affected state by the beekeeper. The competent veterinary authority may order certain of his treatment of all bee colonies in a particular area of it.
