Accademia Pontaniana

The Accademia Pontaniana (also Academia Pontaniana ) is one of the oldest scientific academies in Italy, based in Naples. Their origin dates back to the 15th century.

History

The exact founding year of the Accademia Pontaniana can not specify with certainty. Its origins can be dated back to around 1443, when a circle Neapolitan scholar to Antonio Beccadelli (also called " Panormita " ) gathered. This informal circle met in Castelnuovo of King Alfonso V of Aragon. After the death Beccadellis these learned meetings were chaired by Giovanni Pontano, hence the term Accademia Pontaniana derived. However, this Academy can not look back on a continuous story, but it came over the centuries repeatedly interrupts. In 1825 it was officially recognized by royal decree as an academy.

Structure

Today's Accademia Pontaniana is divided into five classes:

  • Scienze ed Applicate Matematiche Pure ( Pure and Applied Mathematics )
  • Of Natural Sciences ( Natural Sciences)
  • Scienze Morali ( ethics and politics )
  • Storia, Archeological e Filologia ( history, archeology and philology )
  • Lettere e Belle Arti ( Literature and Fine Arts)

Each class is composed of 20 regular members along with reside in Naples, 10 ordinary members and 20 foreign corresponding members.

The Academy is a series of publications out, including the " Atti dell'Accademia Pontaniana " as an annual Periodicum and the " Quaderni della Accademia Pontaniana " as a series of monographs.
