Accent (phonetics)

The accent in linguistics is a suprasegmental feature of sounds, words, phrases and sentences. It serves to highlight syllables, words, phrases and sentences. As agents are dynamic, melodic and temporal accent used. Besides the main accent it may even be a secondary stress. In German, the emphasis is usually on the first syllable.

When word accent a syllable is stressed in the sentence accent a word.

When it is pitch accent (rare) to the temporal variation or the evolution of the pitch and the volume within a vowel or vowel half.
