Access Systems Americas

PalmSource / Access is the manufacturer of the PDA operating system Palm OS.

Originally PalmSource emerged from the software development division of Palm, Inc. ( Palm today ).

PalmSource acted since October 2003 as an independent company. PalmSource even saw a number of advantages. So the company president David Nagel expected an increase in the Palm OS licensee, a stronger focus on the core business and an improved competitive position.

The company developed and sold more Palm OS licenses to handheld manufacturers. Licensees were next to Palm and Sony also Aceeca, AlphaSmart, Foundertec, Fossil, Garmin, GSPDA, HuneTec, Kyocera, Lenovo, LG Electronics, Percomm, Samsung, Symbol and Tapwave. The former licensee Handspring was acquired in 2003 by Palm.

In September 2005, PalmSource was acquired by the Japanese company Access ( manufacturer of the browser NetFront ) for 324 million U.S. dollars. In October 2006 the name was changed PalmSource in Access.
