Accessory meningeal artery

The middle meningeal artery accessoria ( " additional meningeal artery ," Syn pterygomeningea artery ) is an artery of the head. It originates mostly from the first ( retromandibular ) section of the maxillary artery, and occasionally from the middle meningeal artery.

The artery supplies outside the cranial cavity, the lateral pterygoid muscle, medial pterygoid muscle and the tensor veli palatini and the eustachian tube. Then contracts with the mandibular nerve through the foramen ovale to the middle cranial fossa. There they supplied the trigeminal ganglion and the meninges.
