Accolans

Accolans is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Accolans situated at an altitude of 424 m above sea level, seven kilometers north-west of L' Isle- sur -le- Doubs and about 21 km west of the town of Montbéliard (air line). The village is located in a hollow in the hills north of Doubstals, west of the height of Accolans.

The area of ​​5.18 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the hills north of Doubstals. The central part of the area occupied by the basin of Accolans. It opens towards the south to the valley of the Doubs, but shows no above-ground rivers, because the rainwater seeps into the karst underground of the Causse. To the north, passes a saddle, which forms the boundary of the municipality, on the catchment area of ​​the Ognon. The boundaries of the basin of Accolans on both sides of plateaus, including the Mont de la Chèvre and Rocheret that are passed partly under arable and meadow land, partly by forest. With 532 m is achieved at the height northeast of the village is the highest elevation of Accolans.

History

The territory of Accolans been inhabited since the Neolithic period, which could be detected on the basis of archaeological finds on the boss of La Motte du Châtelot north of the village. The area around Accolans was probably cleared in the 12th century by monks of the Cistercian monastery Lieu- croissant and reclaimed. In the Middle Ages Accolans belonged to the rule Granges, which came under the suzerainty of the Counts of Montbéliard in the 14th century. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 to France. Today Accolans is part of the municipal association Communauté de communes des Isles du Doubs.

Attractions

The Church of Accolans was built around 1840. It has a remarkable choir and wooden statues from the 18th century. In the cemetery there is a cast iron Calvaire ( 1897). In the south of the village is that of the Oratory of Saint Joseph is from 1868.

Population

With 100 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Accolans is one of the smallest municipalities of the department of Doubs. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1911 189 persons were still counted ), small fluctuations were recorded since then only.

Economy and infrastructure
