Occupation

Live, also known under the name AC / DC Live, is the second official live album by the Australian hard rock band AC / DC. It was recorded in 1990 and 1991 and published on 21 October 1992 on Atco, a sub-label of Atlantic Records.

Background

As AC / DC have so far yet to publish a Greatest Hits album and live contains the main hits of the band, the album can serve as a substitute for a best-of compilation. It is also the first time in the history of the band that their best known songs appear in live versions. Although had come with If You Want Blood ( You've Got It) in 1978 a live album by AC / DC on the market, but had been taken this before the big commercial breakthrough of the band, which is why many songs now considered classics are missing. In addition, this still late with the 1980 singer Bon Scott was taken.

The live version of Highway to Hell was released as a single and peaked in the UK Top 40 in 14th place only in Australia appeared instead as a single with Bonny Highway to Hell as a B-side. Bonny is based on the nickname of their former singer Bon Scott song and was dedicated to him. Unlike If You Want Blood ( You've Got It) the songs were edited together not entirely, most of the songs are hidden on both album versions before another song follows. Only a few songs have been recorded contiguously (more or less), have a liquid junction.

Live was the last release AC / DC ' s Chris Slade on drums. For the follow-up album Ballbreaker Phil Rudd returned, who had already played on the first album of the band.

Reception

Live appeared at the same time in a single-disc version and a double album with the addition of 2 CD Collector's Edition. The album benefited from the huge success of previous album The Razors Edge and made quite a good chart positions. So it was in the U.S. Billboard 200 at # 15 in the UK album charts reaching number 5, as well as in Germany. In Australia, it was even the first album the band since For Those About to Rock in 1981, which reached the top position. The Collector's Edition managed separately from the single-disc version of an entry into the U.S. Billboard 200 at number 34

Also from the criticism the album was recorded rather positive. For example, wrote the hi-fi audio magazine: " Who is on the snotty rock the Brothers Young & Co., is hardly disappointed by this powerful concert Preserve. Live gives the best quick-fix Hard Rock from Australia over the studio albums, although no new musical worlds, as a best- of- collection however, he goes through playing. Namely, either as a biplane with 23 pieces for fans who really need anything, or in the light version with only 14 titles that still contains enough standard works from all phases. "

In the magazine Rock Hard one is somewhat divided. 1992 following Judgment was published in issue 66 of Frank Albrecht: "Exactly 13 years have passed since the release of the legendary first AC / DC live LP. The fact that this band still enjoys great popularity, is amazing and well deserved by constant honest music and live shows. But that AC / DC would reach the iconic status that LP again, was excluded from the outset. This creates more than the CD bootleg of a Hammersmith show of 1979, which at that time was recorded from a radio station. Nevertheless, the now published live double album has its charms, because live recordings with Brian Johnson were far and possibly find in short supply on single B- sides. In addition, the complete show of last year's tour is offered with 23 songs, which is not exactly also common. And yet somehow I miss the courage to take risks in this work. Everything sounds too smooth, too perfect, as if the part had been post processed plentiful. In addition, the audience was very mixed in the background. Usually the fans are louder than the band at the set- opener Thunderstruck. On this album, you do not hear it, however. Musically, can AC / DC convince obvious, but a little more naturalness of thing would not have hurt. " He forgave eight out of ten possible points. In a later review in the same magazine Götz Kühnemund showed more done and concluded: "Finally! 16 years had to wait and be content with expensive bootlegs Europe AC / DC fans before they were allowed to keep this noble double live album in the trembling fingers! And the error of If You Want Blood ... been avoided this time: The production sounds absolutely authentic, and all the classics were housed that fit into a two-hour program. From Thunder Struck Back in Black and Sin City to For Those About to Rock all standards are in exciting versions, astonishingly powerful and sovereign sung by Brian, included. Class! " Götz Kühnemund awarded in his review the full score.
