Ace of Spades is the title of the fifth album by the British heavy metal band Motörhead. It was released in November 1980 and is regarded by critics as one of the best albums of the band. In March 1981, the album received gold status for selling 100,000 units in the UK.

Recording and publication

The recordings took place from early August to mid-September 1980 in the Jackson 's Studios in Rickmansworth instead. The producer Vic Maile Lemmy Kilmister knew from the time as a member of Hawkwind. The title song contains a tap dance rhythm and acts of various forms of gambling, especially poker, Ace of Spades is in English for the playing card ace of spades. The Song ( We Are ) The Road Crew is dedicated to the roadies of the band, Lemmy Kilmister wrote the text within a few minutes during recording pause.

Because of the planned album and a tour, the single Ace of Spades has been previously published on 27 October and in November it reached position 15 on the British charts. The album itself was released on 8 November and reached fourth place in the charts.

The cover photo and other recordings for the booklet were taken in the fall of 1980 during a photo session in South Mimms. The idea for the Western motif comes from Eddie Clarke.

Reception

The album was rated for the most part positive. Critically, it has been called " one of the best metal albums ever " assessed and described as an influential hard rock classic.

1981 forgave Peter Kreglinger in the audio at least 14 of a possible 20 points, although he noted: "Much Drive, little variations," and especially " hellishly loud." 1986 Philip Roser noted in his Motörhead History in the crash " Abschleifungserscheinungen ". 1997 Of such was in Rock Hard occasion of the re-releases nothing to read, instead, wrote in January Jaedike of an " ultimate - disc [ ... ] that will remain forever unmatched". In the U.S., the order of the songs differs. In Germany some pressings wear on both sides of the LP marked " Side A ".

Reissues

On January 28, published in 2003, Silverline DVD- Audio version of the album. On March 28, 2005 Eagle Vision brought a DVD with excerpts of the making-of and interviews with the band members out.

The single Ace of Spades was re-released in its original format in 2005. Furthermore, there's a 12-inch version with two bonus songs. One of which is a remix version of the title song.
