Achamán

Achaman (also Achuhuran ) is the Supreme Being in the mythology of the indigenous inhabitants of Tenerife ( Guanches ). They worshiped many gods and believed in a supreme being, which they called Achaman.

El Teide, is the hispanisierte form of the Guanche word ' Echeyde ". He called the home of the evil demons Guayota, which, according to legend, had captured the sun god Magec and held captive in Echeyde. The darkness frightened the Guanches deeply and they asked their supreme god, Achaman to help. This drove Guayota, freed the sun god Magec and locked the upper opening of the Echeyde with a plug, the so-called "Pan de Azucar " (sugar bread) or " Pitón " ( Sugar Loaf ).

On the island of Gran Canaria it bears the name Acoran, on La Palma is his name Abora.
