Achates

Achates (Greek Ἀχάτης ) is a figure in Roman mythology. According to the description in Virgil's Aeneid, he was the best friend and companion of the Trojan hero Aeneas and his armor-bearer. Before Virgil Achates can not be grasped in ancient literature. He has in the Aeneid only a few performances. Achates welcomed as a first the newfound Italy and has only been described in another fight scene.

Regardless of Virgil there is only one action in ancient literature, the Achates is attributed, but it is not clear whether it is time to settle before Virgil's work. He is described inter alia in Eustathius than that Trojans, kills the Protesilaos. However, this is attributed in ancient literature also alternately Hector, Euphorbos, Cycnus and Aeneas.

The " loyalty of the agate " was proverbial in the Roman Empire.
