Achatinella buddii

Achatinella buddii is an extinct species of snail from the genus Achatinella, a group of 41 arboreal Schneckentaxa that occur only on the Hawaiian island of Oahu.

Description

Achatinella buddii reached a body length of 2.0 centimeters and a body diameter of 1.0 centimeters. The robust housing was tapered ovoid and linksgewunden. The six bulging whorls were edged at the top of something. The seams were moderately perforated and white banded. The mouth was egg-shaped. The lip was pointed and thickened within. The housing shell was yellowish blue-gray or light brown. The spindle and the mouth were white.

Occurrence

Achatinella was buddii in the valleys of Wailae, Palolo, Manoa, and is often at the top of Makiki.

Extinction

Achatinella buddii was seen around 1900 last. Probably the kind disappeared through over-harvesting, and by deforestation.
