Achatinella caesia

Achatinella caesia is an extinct species of snail from the endemic on the island of Oahu breathing land snail genus Achatinella.

Description

Achatinella caesia reached a body length of 18.3 mm and a case diameter of 10.6 mm. The robust housing was linksgewunden, not perforated, ovate conical, shiny and wrinkled. The white and beige dash gave the dish a grayish appearance. The apex was slightly pointed. The spindle was curved conical. The seam was margins and moderately depressed. There were 6 ½ convex whorls. The central spindle fold was developed white and moderately. The mouth was sinuous oval and white on the inside. The aperture rim was thickened on the inside and had a curved, escalating, brown outer edge. The spindle rim was widened and grown together.

Dissemination

Achatinella caesia came into the regions of Waimea, Kahuku, Kahana, Hakipuu and Waikane ago on Oahu.

Extinction

Achatinella caesia died out shortly after 1900. Probably the over-harvesting have contributed worm collectors and habitat destruction to her disappearance.
