Achene

The achene ( altgr. a chainein not gape ') is a special type of nut fruit, one -seeded indehiscent fruit. It comes among others, the composite plants ( Asteraceae) (formerly Compositae) and forms from an inferior ovary. The fruit wall ( pericarp ) and seed coat ( testa) are very closely related to each other lying tight ( a true coalescence is probably not before ) and partly form together with the transformed sepals ( pappus ) an airworthy diaspore. A well-known example of this is the dandelion.

A Doppelachäne comes at the Umbelliferae before ( Apiaceae ), it is a gap fruit. An example of this family containing numerous herbs is parsley.
