Acosmeryx is a genus of the family of the butterfly hawkmoth ( Sphingidae ) within the subfamily Macro Glos Sinae.

Features

The top of the wing is predominantly colored brown and gray and has a mosaic-like pattern on. The outer edge of the front wing is dented, between the veins R4 and R5 to be curved. The last link of the filiform, rough scaly sensor is very long. The butterflies are missing eyelash -like scales on the compound eyes. The labial palps are large and rounded laterally considered. The abdomen bears numerous spurs, the short are pale and rather thin, long are stronger. The eighth tergite is deeply curved and separated from sternite. The rails ( tibiae ) of the hind legs wearing two pairs of spurs, the proximal spurs are twice as long as the distal.

The eggs are smooth, shiny green and ovate.

The caterpillars have a small head and a body that tapers from the first abdominal segment to forward. The third thoracic segment and the first abdominal segment have a ventrolateral projection. The thoracic segments are ventrally dark. The Analhorn is medium long and erect, but sharply curved. Dorsolateral runs a longitudinal line.

The doll proboscis with the body is deformed. The seventh abdominal segment is strongly incised at the posterior margin. The cremaster is short and thick and carries at the top of a spike pair or is drawn out to a shaft.

Way of life

The caterpillars feed on climbing and climbing vine plants ( Vitaceae ), radiation stylus family ( Actinidiaceae ) and rose apple family ( Dilleniaceae ).

Occurrence and systematics

The distribution of the genus covers the Orient, Australasia and the eastern Palearctic. The distribution area of a species Acosmeryx naga, also reaches up into the Western Palearctic in Tajikistan and Afghanistan. Currently, 17 species are known:
