Acqualagna

Acqualagna is an Italian municipality ( comune ) with 4460 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) in the province of Pesaro and Urbino in the Marche region. The municipality is situated approximately 38 km south-southwest of Pesaro and approximately 12 km south-southeast of Urbino on Candigliano and is part of the Comunità montana del Catria e Nerone. In the northwest of Metaurus limits the community.

History

As the Roman city Pitinum Mergens was destroyed around 400 by Alaric, founded the displaced residents from Castel di Monte Falcone from the Acqualagna.

Economy

Acqualagna is a center for the truffle trade. In the neighboring forests thrive all types of commercially viable truffles. Among them the most expensive and best-known species of the White Truffle (Tuber magnatum pico). In addition there are also a number of truffle farms where Perigord truffle (Tuber melanosporum ) and summer truffles (Tuber aestivum) grow. Most families have one or more members, which steps in the appropriate seasons with dogs in search of the tubers.
