Mangrovenfarn ( Acrostichum aureum L.)

Mangrove ferns ( Acrostichum ) constitute a genus, whose species occur pantropisch in wetlands, particularly in freshwater influenced edge areas of mangroves.

Description

Acrostichum species are hardy ferns with rhizome. The fronds are simply pinnate, alternate and up to 3 m long; the rachis bears brownish scales at the bottom. The leaflets are short -stalked or sitting and are up to 40 cm long. The sporangia are not arranged in sori, but freely over the entire underside of the leaflets distributed ( " brown lining ").

Within the genus are three possible types:

  • Acrostichum aureum L.: pantropisch
  • Acrostichum danaeifolium Langsd. & Fish. Tropical America
  • Speciosum Willd Acrostichum. Tropical Asia
