Act Prohibiting Importation of Slaves

Act Prohibiting Importation of Slaves is a 1807 federal law a decree of the United States, which stipulated that no new slaves could be imported into the United States. It entered into force, the earliest allowed by the then Constitution of the United States date on 1 January 1808.

The law ended the legality of the US-based transatlantic slave trade.

It was not always enforced in the vast land anywhere; slavery in the United States continued until the end of the Civil War ( 1861-1865 ) and the addition of the 13th Amendment to the Constitution of 1865.

Almost simultaneously with the Act Prohibiting Importation of Slaves, the British Parliament decided after many years of discussion, the Slave Trade Act in 1807.
