Actias dubernardi is a butterfly (moth ) from the family of the peacock moth ( Saturniidae ).

Features

The moths reach a wingspan of up to 15 centimeters. The wings are purple in males and colored green, with the females they are pale green. The females resemble Actias luna, however, have longer wings tails.

The caterpillars are the first stage (L1 ) is still colored black, in the second it is colored red. In the higher stages it is dark green.

Like all peacock moth caterpillar spins itself a cocoon. The pupal period is depending on the temperature 6-10 weeks.

Biology

The caterpillars feed in nature on pines ( Pinus ), in breeding but also to larches ( Larix) and Nordmann fir (Abies nordmanniana ). They spin, like all other Saturniidae, a cocoon of silk. The moths live only one to two weeks because they can not feed like all Saturniidae.
