Action Congress Party

The Action Congress Party ( ACP) was a political party in Ghana.

It was founded at the end of Ignatius Kutu Acheampong military dictatorship in the democratization process in the Third Republic of Ghana. Acheampong had issued a general prohibition party during his military junta.

Development

The ACP participated in the elections of 18 June 1979, won in the National Assembly ( National Assembley ) ten of the total of 140 seats. On the same day, the direct elections were held for the office of President. As a presidential candidate of the ACP Frank Bernasko approached and achieved 9.4 percent of the vote. Thus, the candidate of the ACP was defeated, the later participants in the run-off elections Hilla Aeschlimann of the People's National Party and Victor Owusu of the Popular Front Party. Mainly found the ACP support for members of the ethnic group Fanti, the second largest Akan group.

With the military coup of Jerry Rawlings on 31 December 1981, all parties were again banned and disbanded the ACP.
