Ê¿Ä€d

The ʿ ad (Arabic عاد, DMG ʿ ad) were according to the Koran a people in the area between present-day Oman and Yemen. According to the Koran, they were the descendants of ʿ ad, a great-grandson of Shem, one of the three sons of Noah, the ancestor of the Semites.

Their capital city was said to be a city called Iram. The Koran says that the city was destroyed by Allah after the people had begun to worship idols. The Prophet Hud had previously been sent by Allah to warn the people.

They are often mentioned in the Qur'an together with the people of Lut and the Thamud.
