Ada, Serbia

Ada ( Serbian Cyrillic Ада, Hungarian Ada ) is a town in the historical region of Backa, part of the Okrug Severni Banat in the Serbian autonomous province of Vojvodina. The administrative seat of the homonymous Opština located about 25 km west of Kikinda. In Ada, there is a Roman Catholic and Serbian Orthodox Ascension Church.

Opština

The Opština Ada is situated along the Tisza River in Backa. In addition to the city Ada to the municipality includes the town of Mol and the following three villages ( Hungarian names of the villages are in italics )

Etymology

The origin of the name is to be found in the Turkish ada ( river -like island).

Traffic

Ada and Mol had from 1889 a railway connection, the line was closed in the 1960s between Bečej and Senta.

On 24 December 2010, a new bridge over the Tisza was opened to traffic on the southern edge of Ada. You should later by the construction of another road to make sure the connection between the E75 motorway and the town of Kikinda. The bridge was also built to increase the attractiveness for companies, since the only other bridges to cross the river Tisza located in the cities of both 20 km north and south of Ada remote ( Senta and Bečej ).

Economy

In Ada is located has long been a major steel company named Potisje, the cannery Zora and an industrial sewing. Tourism
