ADAC Procar Series

The ADAC Procar Series is the successor of DMSB Production Car Championship, which was originally founded as the German Touring Car Challenge.

History

German Touring Car Challenge

The German Touring Car Challenge was established in 1995 as part of the Beru Top 10. It was created as a device class for the grassroots. Just like at the time held in Germany Super Tourenwagen Cup, the engine capacity was limited to 2000 cc. However, they were based on the production-based Group N regulations and therefore were not a counterpart to the STW. With a capacity of just under 200 hp and a vehicle price of around $ 100,000 they cost only one-fifth of a former Super Touring car. As the regulations the tuners technically much more room left than the group of N, could be a successful Challenge car from virtually every model.

The regulations also came in other countries well so that, inter alia, the Netherlands, Finland and Austria went thereafter. Later, the DTC rules was announced by the FIA internationally as Super Production regulations. So Regulations were also driven at international events such as the Guia Race in Macau after this touring car. With the reintroduction of the European Touring Car Championship in 2001 transitional regulations were also driven by the Super Production.

The German Sports Television was a longtime partner of the Beru Top 10 and also contributed extensively by the DTC runs.

DMSB Production Car Championship

In 2004, next to the name and the regulations were changed. They wanted the title of a German championship for the DTC. Therefore, we pondered the name German Production Car Championship (DPM ). However, the naming rights of this group were still in the ITR. The German Touring Car Championship was the beginning like that. Therefore, we took the path to the DMSB and named it thus in DMSB Production Car Championship at.

When they switched to touring cars of the Super Production cars on the elaborate Super 2000 touring car designed for the European Touring Car Championship. While it was a pure Super 2000 touring car from the manufacturers previously involved only by BMW, the other manufacturers, or use team first had to adapt the vehicle to the new regulations.

From this year we went to get together in two divisions, a larger starting field. In Division 1 to 2000 cc vehicles of the BMW 320i, Ford Focus ST, Honda Civic Type R and Opel Astra Coupe competed against each other. In Division 2-1600 cc Citroën Saxo, Ford Fiesta, Honda Civic EK4 and VW Lupo GTI clashed. Both divisions were a common starting field and contributed two races in the top 10 per weekend from Beru.

The technique has been strictly regulated for reasons of cost and monitored. In Division 1 and 2 Turbo engines, all-wheel drive and electronic driver aids were banned. In addition, all vehicles had to use uniform material: HJS catalysts, Shell fuel, ATS wheels and Dunlop tires. The minimum weight for vehicles of Division 1 with front-wheel drive with driver amounted to 1110 kg and 1140 kg for rear-wheel drive; in the lower-performing Division 2 with front-wheel drive 965 kg and 995 kg for vehicles with rear wheel drive.

To prevent series victories, were in two divisions Handicap weights for the top three that were granted after each event according to the rankings of the two races and down in rankings of 6th dismantled from the next event.

In order to guarantee an extensive television coverage, all the races of the DPM 2004 season at the German Sports Television (DSF ) were broadcast live or delayed.

ADAC Procar Series

After two years, the name of this series was changed again in 2006. They chose the name ADAC Procar Series, which was actually in 2005 provided for an organized by ADAC race series for GT sports car. However, since too few participants had enrolled, the start of this racing series has been postponed. In 2007, this GT series started but then under the name ADAC GT Masters with FIA GT3 sports car.

However, the ADAC Procar Series is only a shadow of the successful DTC. The starting field was to become filled to a 3rd Division to present a reasonable starting field. This third division was considered a catch-all for the no longer transmitted Alfa 147 Cup. Thus by 2008 were only 2.0 l turbo diesel to start. However, one change for 2009, the Regulations of the 3rd Division. From now on 2.0 liter petrol engines were permitted again. The new regulations equivalent to the former DTC concept in many ways.

After getting out of the DSF in the television broadcast was only sporadically reported in the media about this. Since from the Beru Top 10 of 2008 had his own motor sports event package, which passed with further organized by ADAC race series in the ADAC Masters Weekend 2009. This DSF came back as rapporteur. Since 2010 there is again a detailed summary of the ADAC Procar in the ADAC Masters magazine on sports 1

In the 2011 season, there were again significant changes in the regulations. The former Division 3 was abolished and in Division 1 and the 1.6-liter turbo engines were in addition to the well-known 2.0 liter normally aspirated engines allowed, as they were also required from 2011 in the WTCC.

From the 2012 season of the ADAC Procar DMSB forgives again the predicate of the German Touring Car Challenge ( DTC), so that the series officially named in 2012 " ADAC Procar to the German Touring Car Challenge DMSB ".

Once in Division 1 starter numbers have declined continuously due to the high costs in the years 2012 and 2013, the future of the whole series was uncertain, since only the vehicles of Division 2, the series could not wear them. But for the 2014 season could be saved by the inclusion of the vehicles of the set end of 2013 Mini Trophy in their own division ( Division M ), a further host of the series. Also, the competition format was changed for the 2014 season. So far there have been at each event weekend two free practice sessions, which took place on Friday and Saturday. This was followed by a qualifying session on Saturday and two races on Sunday. The novelty is that now the free practice on Saturday and is omitted for each on Saturday and Sunday, a qualifying session and a race takes place, ie, that every day in qualifying the starting grid for the following race is determined.
