Adalbert Gyrowetz

Adalbert Gyrowetz, Czech Vojtěch Jírovec ( born February 19, 1763 in Budweis, Bohemia, † March 19 1850 in Vienna ) was a Bohemian- Austrian composer.

Gyrowetz received early training in vocal and violin and during his high school days in organ and basso continuo. After his studies in Prague, Brno, he joined the service of Count Johann Franz Five churches. He then attended numerous former music centers of Europe.

In London he met 1791/92 on Joseph Haydn, whose style influenced his harmonies and there composed chamber music and his symphonies. In 1793 he went to Vienna, where he was from 1804 to 1831 Court Theatre conductor.

He composed numerous sacred works, operas, musical plays and more than 60 symphonies, string quartets, piano sonatas. The written by Felice Romani 's libretto for his opera Il finto Stanislao (1818 ) was later reused by Giuseppe Verdi with only minor changes as the basis of his early opera buffa entitled Un giorno di regno (1840 ).

With one of his piano concertos debuted eight years of Frédéric Chopin.

In 1894 in Vienna Penzing ( 14th district ) was named the Gyrowetzgasse after him.
