Adalbert Merx

Adalbert Merx Ernst Otto ( born November 2, 1838 in Bleicherode; † August 6, 1909 in Heidelberg ) was a German theologian and orientalist.

Life

He was the son of the pedagogue Friedrich Wilhelm Merx (1809-1843) and the writer Eulalia Merx, born Hoche (1815-1908), who was a sister of the writer and women's rights activist Louise Aston, born Hoche ( 1814-1871 ).

Adalbert Merx studied in Jena, where he became associate professor in 1869. As a result, he was professor of philosophy in Tübingen, from 1873 professor of theology at Giessen. From 1875 to his death he was professor of theology in Heidelberg.

In the course of his research, he made ​​several trips to the Middle East. He died at a funeral speech for a friend on the mountain cemetery Heidelberg on August 6, 1909.

Work
