Adam Darr

Adam Darr (* 1811 in Schweinfurt, † October 10, 1866 in Augsburg ) was a German guitarist, composer and zither player.

Life

Little is known about Darrs childhood and adolescence. He grew up in his native town of Schweinfurt, and came first as a guitarist to prominence. As a " guitar virtuoso ", he played in numerous European countries and in 18 different farms. He worked as a music teacher in London and moved 1840 to Würzburg, and later to Munich and Augsburg, where he died in 1866. By the end of his life he worked as a music teacher and increasingly devoted himself in his later years, the zither.

Work

From Darr compositions for solo guitar, guitar duet and solo zither have survived. Costello refers to his guitar work as " one of the most expressive of the 19th century". But Takes Over has especially his " Zitherschule " which was reissued after his death, among other things, by the Viennese philologist Adolf Wilhelm in 6 folders. The Zitherschule is still available in an arrangement by Gudrun cellar today.
