Adam de Craponne

Adam de Craponne (* 1526 in Salon- de -Provence, † 1576 in Nantes) was a French engineer.

Life

Between 1554 and 1559 built by Adam de Craponne the Canal de Craponne, which bears her name. This is designed to dewater the landscape Crau at Arles. For this purpose he uses the water of the Durance. First, from 1554 to 1556, he built only a smaller channel, which he expanded over the next three years on its planned size. Although he could finish his work schedule, but only using Nostradamus, who supported him financially. The implementation of his plan, which dry up swamps around Arles and Tarascon, but failed. His death in 1576 is puzzling: Apparently he was poisoned by rival engineers, while a channel for Henry III. should build.
