Adam Jarzębski

Adam Jarzębski (* 1590 in Warka ( Pilicą ); † beginning in 1649 in Warsaw) was a Polish violinist and composer.

Life

Jarzębski worked from 1612 as a violinist in the court orchestra of the Elector of Brandenburg Johann Siegmund, with whom he performed in many German cities. In 1615 sent him to the elector for a year to Italy. In 1617 he settled in Warsaw as a member of the royal chapel down. In recognition of his musical talent, he received from King Sigismund numerous benefits, and it managed to be included in the Warsaw patricians. In 1635 he was commissioned by King Vladislav IV with the supervision of the construction of the Palace of Ujazdów since he recorded with " muzyk JKM i budownicy Ujazdów ", synonymous with royal musician and builder of Ujazdow. On December 26, 1648, he wrote his will and died a short time later.

Jarzębskis Canzoni e Concerti ... is one of the earliest extant collections of early Baroque music in Poland. Although only 1627 printed, the works were written about 10 years earlier. They represent the sophisticated Italian style of the period, which was maintained also in Central Europe. Many works contain partially fashioned musical material from motets or madrigals by composers such as Palestrina, Giovanni Gabrieli, Claudio Merulo or Alessandro Striggio.
