Adam Malik

Adam Malik ( born July 22, 1917 in Pematang Siantar, North Sumatra, † September 5, 1984 in Bandung, West Java) was Foreign Minister of Indonesia since 1966. He also served as Vice President of Indonesian 1978 until 1984.

Previously Malik was 1959-1963 Ambassador to the Soviet Union and Poland. Outstanding here were the negotiations with the Netherlands on the situation of West Irian. His political skills earned him the nickname " Kantjil " ( dwarf deer ) a, a designation which corresponds (toughness and cunning ) in German with " Reynard the Fox ".

In 1966 he represented Indonesia at the UN General Assembly and in 1971 was its chairman.

To him, the Adam Malik award will be presented as a national media award in Indonesia since 2002 to honor.
