Ádám Mányoki

Adam Manyoki, Hungarian Ádám Mányoki (* 1673 in Szokolya, Hungary, † August 6, 1757 in Dresden, Saxony ) was a Hungarian painter from the 18th century.

Life

Manyoki was a pupil of the German court painter Adam Scheitz in Lüneburg. He later worked among others in Germany, France, Poland and the Netherlands. In his last years he worked as a court painter at the court of Saxony in Dresden.

During his education he took on influences of the French N. largilliere, whose works in the gallery Salzdahlumer he copied. 20 -year-old he was then active in Hamburg, where his self-portrait of 1693 was born. 1703/ 07 stay in Berlin to produce portraits of the officers of his regiment, on behalf of the Crown Prince Friedrich Wilhelm. In 1707 he became court painter to the Prince Rákóczi ( his portrait in Mus. D Fine Arts, Budapest). 1713 he was appointed court painter Augustus the Strong in Dresden, where he worked initially until 1723. From here, created numerous portraits of famous and important people of the nobility, even after orders from Dessau and Berlin, such as the portrait of the Grand Duchess Constantine (1713 ); Countess Kosel (1713 ); Countess Aurora King Mark (1714 ); Henriette von Anhalt (1714 ); Karl Ludwig, Margrave of Brandenburg; Leopold of Dessau, etc. in 1723 he lived in Vienna, to portray the Archduchess Maria Theresa, Maria Antonia and other members of the Viennese court. In the years 1724-1731 he worked in his native Hungary. It was here that portraits of the Hungarian nobility, partly in the Esterhazy.1731 collection Manyoki worked in Dresden and Leipzig. It emerged alongside nobility portraits now also portraits of artists and scientists, such as the painter Alexander Thiele ( 1736); Prof. Rechenberg ( 1736). In 1738 he was next to the famous Dresden court painter to Louis de Silvestre again at the Saxon court in Dresden active and has repeatedly received numerous portrait commissions ( Princess Lubomirska Kronmarschall Bilinski, Goldsmith Dinglinger - Green Vault - Dönhoff, Mme Montmorency, Count Fleming, etc ). Addition, however, also emerged a few portraits of the Saxon ruler Frederick Augustus II, son of Augustus the Strong. Besides Sylvestre, who had been entrusted with much of the creation of large-scale allegories and interior decoration paintings for Dresden, Manyoki so worked mainly as a portraitist. However, the quality of his work is the more familiar Sylvestre in nothing. Stylistically, he represented the dark -ground portrait style that was first put forward by Sylvestre later the rococo fashion accordingly in brighter colors. His works are in the Dresden Gallery: Baroness de Besenval Katarzyna (1713 ), King Frederick William I of Prussia and Princess Konstancja, Princess Poniatowska (before 1722).
