Adam Reusner

Adam Reusner also: Reissner, (? * 1471 or 1496 in Mindelheim, † 1563 or 1582 Mindelheim ) was a German mystic and poet.

Life

Reusners life data are not fully exploited. While Zedler indicating definite dates, use other reference books estimated annual numbers. It is certain that he first studied in 1518 at the University of Heidelberg and there was a student of Johannes Reuchlin. In 1523 he goes to the University of Wittenberg, where he was known among other things, Martin Luther, Philipp Melanchthon, Justus Jonas the Elder and pursued a degree in theology. After that, he was secretary of the field Captain Georg von Frundsberg, later a private scholar in Strasbourg and Frankfurt am Main.

From 1526 to 1528 was Reusner as secretary with German mercenaries in Italy its leader George of Frundsbergstrasse, where he witnessed the storming of Rome among others. He was in Strasbourg supporters of spiritualistic direction of Kaspar Schwenckfeld and taught his theology. In Mindelheim he worked from 1532 to 1548 as town clerk. However, a post he lost as a result of the Smalcald War.

As an independent scholar, he wrote historical and theological works, including a " anti-papal world history." He later became known as the hymn writer. He wrote Psalm texts on the Psalter of Sigmund Hemmel. His hymn I gehoffet In thee, O Lord (EC 275 ) can still be found in Protestant hymnal today.
