Adams County (Iowa)

The Adams County is a county located in the U.S. state of Iowa. In the census in 2010, the County had 4,029 inhabitants and a population density of 3.7 inhabitants per square kilometer. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Corning.

Geography

The County is located in southwest Iowa and has an area of 1,102 square kilometers, of which five square kilometers of water surface. It is bordered by the following counties:

History

The Adams County was formed on January 15, 1851 from parts of Pottawattamie County. It was named either after John Adams (1735-1826), second president of the United States ( 1797-1801 ).

The original size of the county was later reduced by the formation of Montgomery County, and Union counties. The first was the county seat in Quincy. In 1872 the headquarters were moved to Corning.

According to the census in 2010 lived in Adams County, 4,029 people in 1,914 households. The population density was 3.7 people per square kilometer.

The racial the population was composed of 98.1 percent white, 0.2 percent African American, 0.5 percent Native American, 0.6 percent Asian and other ethnic groups; 0.5 percent were descended from two or more races.
