Adams County (Wisconsin)

The Adams County is a county located in the U.S. state of Wisconsin. In 2010, the County had 20,875 inhabitants and a population density of 12.4 inhabitants per square kilometer. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Friendship.

Geography

The County is located just south of the geographic center of Wisconsin and has an area of 1783 square kilometers, of which 106 square kilometers are water surface. The lowest point is 310 m and the highest at 415 m. By County flow of the Wisconsin River and the Lemonweir River. At the Adams County border on the following Nachbarcountys:

History

The Adams County was formed on March 11, 1848 from portions of Portage County. It was named after John Quincy Adams, the sixth President of the United States.

Population

According to the census in 2010 lived in Adams County 20,875 people in 9168 households. The population density was 12.4 inhabitants per square kilometer. In the 9168 households lived statistically 2.12 per person.

The racial the population was composed of 93.9 percent white, 3.3 percent African American, 1.1 percent Native American, 0.4 percent Asian, 0.1 percent Polynesians as well as other ethnic groups; 1.2 percent were descended from two or more races. Regardless of ethnicity were 3.8 percent of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

15.7 percent of the population were under 18 years old, 58.8 percent were between 18 and 64 and 25.5 percent were 65 years or older. 45.8 percent of the population was female.

The median income for a household was $ 41,152. The per capita income was $ 22,296. 12.4 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
