Adanaspor

Adanaspor is a Turkish football club. Adanaspor played a total of 21 years in the top Turkish football class (Superliga). In the Eternal Table of Süper Lig Adanaspor occupies the 16th place.

Adanaspor presented twice the top scorer in the Turkish Süper Lig in the 1980/81 season with 15 goals and Bora Öztürk in the season 1978/79 Özer Umdu also with 15 goals.

The German international Thomas Berthold played from 15 January 2001 to the end of the 2000/01 season at Adanaspor. Today's German coach Joachim Loew was a coach there 20 December 2000 to 4 March 2001.

History

Adanaspor was founded in 1954 by Mehmet Şanlıtürk, Mustafa Bekbaş, Erol Erk, Ali Gedikbaş and Dr. Muzaffer Eraslan. In the founding year, the team played in the second amateur league and managed to rise already after one season. At this time the team played in blue and yellow jerseys. In 1966, the clubs and Akınspor Torsosspor dissolved and merged with Adanaspor. This should create a professional club. Thus Adanaspor could play in the Second Turkish football league from the season 1966/67. Since this step, the club has the colors orange and white. The Adana Province is one of the largest agricultural development areas of Turkey and has the largest cotton growing region of Turkey. The white in the team colors symbolizes as well as on the club logo displayed cotton. The club orange color associated to the citrus plant orange which is highly cultivated in this region.

The club was promoted to the first league in 1971. From 1971 to 1984 Adanaspor played continuously in the first Turkish football league. During this time the club has shown remarkable success. 1981 Adanaspor was behind Trabzonspor Vice Champion. In 1976 one third. In addition, the team qualified for the UEFA Cup three times and once for the Balkan Cup. 1984, the club descended into the 2nd league. The rise of managed Adanaspor after four years.

Due to the poor economic situation and permanent change in the Executive Club, the poor situation on the team was noticeable. So the team was relegated in 1991 as Table for the second time in the second division from. In 1996 was set at a General Meeting that Adanaspor as a public company to outsource to. So Adanaspor Spor Faaliyetleri A.Ş. was founded. 1998 it rose to the first league for the third time. The club grew in the 2000 /01 season from in the second league. Joachim Löw was busy this season December 20, 2000 to March 4, 2001 there. After just one season Adanaspor immediately rose again in Süper Lig.

The securities were sold to the Uzan family. Due to the poor economic situation of the family Adanaspor came under renewed financial difficulties. The year 2004 saw the club in the second league. This was followed in the next few seasons more descents to the Club 2006 in the 4th league fell. In December 2005, the club wanted the degradation of the joint-stock company and was just before the dissolution of the association. On 9 June 2006, the Turkish Football Federation decided that the club can continue playing as a pure club again.

Following this decision, it was sporty looking up again. Within two seasons, the club went back up to the 2nd Division.

The 2011/12 season was started with the new coach Levent Eriş and experienced a mixed season. At season's end was achieved by good performances in recent weeks game reached to the sixth place in the table and to make participation in the playoffs. In the semifinals of the playoffs they sat down against Çaykur Rizespor through, reaching the final. In the final they lost in extra time Kasımpaşa Istanbul 2:3 and thus missed the promotion to the Süper Lig until the last encounter.
