Adansi North District

The district Adansi North (until 2003 part of the district Adansi West) is one of 21 districts in the Ashanti Region of Ghana. It has a size of 828 square kilometers and about 235 680 inhabitants. The Adansi North District is bordered by the districts Amansie East and South Adansi. It was created from the former district Adansi West in 2003, as well as Adansi South. Chief Executive of the district is Peter Kwabena Ameyaw, the capital of the district is Fomena.

Economy

In the area of the district Adansi North are the most productive mines of Black Africa. One of the largest mining companies in the world, the Ashanti Goldfields Ltd.. has mining rights in this district. For over a century, here you will find some of Ghana's richest gold mines.

In addition to mining, the district has to have an important economic factor with the timber industry in boats. Two large sawmills are located in the district that still has some stock of rainforest. The production of palm oil and gari play in this district also play a greater role. A total of 70 % of the population of the district is employed in agriculture to about 65 % of the total area of the district. Besides palm oil mainly cocoa, citrus fruits, maize, cassava, plantain, ginger, tomatoes and peppers are grown. Some poultry farms and pig farms are located in the district.

In the district there are eight national and local banks available. Branches have opened the following banks:. Ghana Commercial Bank Ltd., Standard Chartered Bank, Agricultural Development Bank, Adansi Rural Bank, Rural Bank Akrofuom, Odotobiri Rural Bank, Rural Bank and the Atobiase Mans Oman Rural Bank. The two largest insurance companies, the State Insurance Company and the Metropolitan Insurance Company have offices in the district.

Transport and other infrastructure

In the district there are 13 km paved road and 69 km highway. Overall, the students of the district can visit 194 schools, of which 122 primary schools, 65 junior secondary schools and six secondary schools. Constituencies

In the district of North Adansi two constituencies for the parliamentary elections and the presidential elections are conducted. Firstly, an urban constituency is the capital Fomena created. Here was Nana Abu Bonsra of the New Patriotic Party (NPP ) Member of Parliament. The rural constituency in the District is called Adansi - Asokwa constituency. Here also was the candidate of the NPP, Kobina Tahir Hammond, elected to the Parliament of Ghana.
