Adansi South District

The district Adansi South (until 2003 part of the district Adansi West) is one of 21 districts in the Ashanti Region of Ghana. It has a size of 1,380 square kilometers and about 129 325 inhabitants. The Adansi South District is bordered by the districts Amansie East, Obuasi Municipal and Adansi North and in turn lies at the southeastern edge of the Ashanti region on the border with the Central Region. It was created in 2003 from the former district Adansi West, who also Adansi South spawned next to the district Adansi North.

The capital of New Edubiase lies about 92 km south of Kumasi, the capital of the Ashanti Region, on the road between Kumasi and Cape Coast.

Attractions

The fauna and flora of the district, especially the eight forest reserves and the waterfalls at Nyamkomasu, Tewobaabi and Adansi Kenya provide attractions in the district dar. In planning a crocodile reserve and a wildlife reserve.

Every year the Afahye Festival in New Edubiase and Bodwesango is celebrated in the district.

Economy

Are grown mainly pineapple, cashew, black pepper, tomatoes, eggplants ( Gardeneggs ) and fungi. Furthermore, there are ideal conditions for the cultivation of oil palm, citrus, cocoa and coffee. The vast majority of the district is covered with dense rainforest. Here are eight forest reserves, extending over a total of 178 km ².

The northwestern part of the district is located on the Ashanti Gold Belt, one in mineral resources, especially gold, rich area. In Mim, Hwediem, Asokwa, Appiakrom, Nyamkomase and Fumso Ketewa to rich gold and diamond deposits lie. In Asokwa is also reported from rich deposits of sand and clay.

In the district just a constituency is reported. For the constituency of New Edubiase Ernest Kofi Yakah of the Party National Democratic Congress (NDC ) was elected to Parliament.
