Addison is a city in Dallas County in the U.S. state of Texas in the United States and is part of the Dallas - Fort Worth Metroplex.

Geography

The city is located in northeastern Texas, is located in the north about 80 miles from Oklahoma and has a total area of 11.5 km ², without significant water surface.

History

The land on which the present town stands Addison was settled in 1846 by Preston Witt when he built a house near the White Rock Creek. In 1902, the settlement gave the name Addison, named after Addison Robertson, who held the office of postmaster from 1908 to 1916. In 1902 there was the first industrial processing of cotton. On June 15, 1953 Addison was incorporated as a city in 1982 and the name was officially changed to the Town of Addison.

Demographic data

According to the census of 2000, there were 14 166 people in 7,621 households and 3,078 families. The population density was 1234.7 people per km ². Ethnically, the population itself is composed of 67.79 % White, 9.63 % African American, 0.41 % Native American, 7.81 % Asian, 0.11 % Pacific Islander residents from the and 10.79% from other ethnic groups. Approximately 3.46% are descended from two or more races and 24.04 % of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

Of the 7,621 households, 17.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them. 28.9 % were married couples living together. 7.5 % had a female householder with no husband, and 59.6 % were non-families. 49.2 % of all households were single-person households and 3.1% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 1.86 and the average family size is 2.74 people.

16.0% of the population were under 18 years old, 12.3 % from 18 to 24, 47.8 % 25-44, 19.3% from 45 to 64, and 4.7 % who were 65 years or older. The average age was 32 years. For every 100 females of all ages were 109.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over 109.8 males.

The median income for a household was $ 48,566, and the median income for a family $ 53,386. Males have a median income of $ 36,977 versus $ 32,452 for females. The per capita income was $ 38,606. 7.7 % of the population and 6.2% of families are below the poverty line. Of which 9.3 % have children under the age of 18 and 10.7 % of those 65 or older.
