Adelia ( original title Adelia o La figlia dell ' armiere ) is an opera ( Melodramma serio ) in three acts by Gaetano Donizetti. The libretto was written Felice Romani Girolamo Maria Marini. The premiere took place on February 11, 1841 at the Teatro Apollo in Rome. The title role is sung Giuseppina.

Formation

About his brother Antonio Vasselli Donizetti came with the Roman impresario Vincenzo Jacovacci (1811 - 1881) in contact, which charged him with a new work. The project proved to be difficult: Censorship and Jacovacci could not agree on which libretto for should now be set to music. Donizetti proposed to appoint one of the two most famous librettist Ferretti or Marini with the elaboration of an action. He returned to Paris, where he continued to work on one of his earlier works, which later became the favorite should be. Nevertheless, he found time to continue working on his new work for Rome, so that the opera was written on September 25, 18540 in half. Donizetti had the libretto for La figlia dell ' arciere by Felice Romani chosen, which was set to music in 1833 by Carlo Coccia. Since Jacovacci wanted a different conclusion, Donizetti tried his friend Romani to persuade them to give him the third act of his libretto. But this did not happen for unknown reasons and Donizetti had a text by Girolamo Maria Marini (1801-1867) recourse.

In mid-December 1840 after the premiere of Donizetti Favorite traveled with the age of the third act to Rome, where he arrived two weeks later.

Première

On February 11, 1811, the day of the premiere, a large crowd had gathered expectantly in front of the sold-out Teatro Apollo in days; Donizetti himself was only able to get on the black market a ticket. However, as a theater employee or Jacovacci themselves had sold more tickets, topped the sell the number of places by far. Act I

The citizens of the city await the duke and his troops, including the archer Arnoldo, back from a victorious battle. Second Act

It recognizes that the execution can only be prevented if the promise of the Duke is not running and decides to refuse the lover her hand.
