History

The development of the area around today's Adenauer Platz had been planned in 1913. The Kurfürstendamm line ( U3 later today: U1) should be from the current terminus Uhland Street further west the Adenauer Platz station crossing and end Theodor -Heuss-Platz at the station. This planning was initially not realized, so that only when the extension of the U7 this station was built in the 1970s. Since the Western extension of the U3 was still in the planning stage, a second platform was built under the precaution of U7 as shell.

In 2004, the subway station has been completely refurbished, with the columns and the ceiling were given a lighter paneling and the floor was fitted with granite tiles. The architect Rainer G. Rümmler had once designed this station, in the course of the renovation, however, many original features from its original design have been removed.

By 2016, the station is accessible rebuilt and an elevator will be installed.
