Lake Placid - Lake in the Adirondack Mountains

The Adirondack Mountains or the Adirondacks are about 25,000 km ² Mountains in the northeastern part of the U.S. state of New York. It forms a larger Einhheit with the Laurentian Mountains, north of the Canadian border. At the eastern end of the Adirondack Mountains lie the lakes of Lake Champlain and Lake George. The southern end of the mountain range is marked by the Mohawk Valley. In the west it is bounded by the Black River. The mountain has been made as Adirondack Park under the special protection of the State of New York.

The mountains

The highest mountain of the many wooded gneiss and granite ridges of the Adirondack Mountains is Mount Marcy with 1629 m. Other mountains are Mount Haystack ( 1512 m) and Mount Skylight (1501 m). The most famous mountain is probably the Whiteface Mountain at which near Lake Placid, the slopes for alpine skiing competitions, the two Olympic Winter Games are. With a height difference of about 1000 m here are the longest ski runs on the American continent east of the Rocky Mountains to be found.
