Adjud

Adjud (Hungarian Egyedhalma ) is a city in Vrancea County in Romania.

Geographical location

Adjud lies in the Vltava River in the foothills of the Eastern Carpathians, near the confluence of the Trotus in the Siret. The district capital Focsani is located approximately 50 km south of Adjud away.

History

The oldest archaeological finds in the region date back to the Bronze Age. In 1433 Adjud was first mentioned. 1838 was the place the official market law, 1920, he became a town. Due to its location, it is an important local commercial center for centuries. Today light industry ( textile and paper production) is of paramount importance.

Population

As of the 2002 census, 17,585 residents were registered in the city, including 17,073 Romanians, 499 Roma and 11 Hungary or Csángós.

Traffic

Adjud is an important railway hub in eastern Romania. Here branches off from the main trunk from Bucharest to Suceava the railway line towards Sfântu Gheorghe in Transylvania from. Regular bus service is inter alia to Bacau and Focsani. Through the city leads the European Route 85
