Adler Microdistrict

Adler (Russian Адлер ) is a town on the Russian Black Sea coast, on the western foothills of the Caucasus directly on the border with Georgia and Abkhazia. Administratively Adler since 1961 is part of the urban district of Sochi and the surrounding area together with one of his four Rajons ( Adlerski rayon ). Eagles Rajon has nearly 90,000 inhabitants ( 2013).

History

The Russians founded on 18 June 1837 fort with the name ( Krepost ) Swjatowo Ducha, translated (fortress) of the Holy Spirit. The area was settled, however, long before the arrival of the Russians. During the Middle Ages here was Liesh, one inhabited by Sadz - Abkhaz village. In the 13th century Genoese merchants established a manufacturing facility, which became known as Layso. At this time, the hinterland was controlled by the Sadz Prince of Aredba; within the present county boundaries was one of their headquarters. The name of the city leads today dates from the time of the Turks of the Ottoman Empire, who called it Artlar or Artı.

A first settlement of that name was founded in 1869 on the site of the Cape " eagle ". From this settlement a larger settlement with a customs station, agencies of various steamship companies and over 100 shops developed by the year 1915. The mild climate, the hilly landscape with subtropical vegetation and deposits of healing mud ensured that Adler developed in Soviet times as a spa. 1934, the place the status of an urban-type settlement.

1961 Rajon eagle incorporated into the municipality of around 30 km further north of Sochi. At this time it had about 20,000 inhabitants ( 1959: 19,658 ).

2014 Winter Olympics

Adler is the main town for the Olympic Winter Games 2014. Here, the Olympic Stadium and four other warehouses for the ice competitions and the opening and closing ceremonies were quickly re-erected on a sea near Rondell. In addition there were extensive alterations and extensions to the traffic management as well as new residential complexes, the Eagles gave a new face in many parts.

Traffic

Between Eagles and Berlin there was in the summer months until December 2013 weekly direct coaches connection. In Adler is also the international airport of Sochi.
